How can a designer use WellFurnished?

Designers can use WellFurnished in multiple ways – to streamline their own workflow as well as to market themselves and build a brand.

Designers have told us that they spend lots of time sourcing furniture for projects. WellFurnished lets you search across multiple vendors easily instead of going from store to store. It also allows you to create a source book of things they like or use routinely. You can also get inspiration from other designers to get their ideas to help you. Managing furniture and ideas for a particular project can be streamlined by using the “collections” feature. To do this, simply add all the things you are considering for a particular project to a collection for that project (eg: Smith dining room). You can add notes on the collection and even share the URL with your client and ask them questions on whether they like what you’ve selected. This will streamline the information flow and both you and your client will have one place to keep tabs on the items you are choosing.

Designers can also use WellFurnished to market themselves. The more a designer likes things and shares collections with people, the more followers they can get, the bigger their reputation becomes and they get a broader platform for communicating with people and sharing ideas. This will translate into an increased ability to get clients over time as designers get increased visibility.

Why should I like something?

Marking something with the “heart” symbol indicates that you like something. Liking something means that a thumbnail of the photo gets stored on your profile so that you can retrieve it whenever you want it. Think of it as a visual bookmark. It also lets you tell others that you like it – so anyone who follows you will be able to see your taste.

How do I like something?

When you are on the WellFurnished site, you can mark any photo on the site with a heart symbol. The heart symbol should be visible in the bottom right hand corner of a photo when you hover over the photo with your mouse. Simply click on the heart and you will see it turn red. That means you now “like” something. If you decide you don’t like something any more, click on the red heart and the red will go away and remove the indicator that you “like” something.

If you are on a design and furniture website and want to save an item that you like, you can do so using the “Like it on WellFurnished” bookmarklet. You should have downloaded the bookmarklet when you registered for the site. You can check if you have done this by looking for “Like It on WellFurnished” in your bookmarks folder or your bookmarks toolbar under the URL/address entry box for your browser. What is a collection?

A collection is a series of photos representing furniture that you like or are considering for a project. It is a way for you to organize things you like.

How do I save something to a collection?

If you see something that you want to add to a collection, please hover over the picture. You will see a + appear in the bottom right hand corner of the photo. Click on that. You will then see a window that says “Add this to a collection.” You can choose whether to add this to an existing collection (the first choice) or create a new collection (the second choice). If you want to create a new collection, choose the second choice and name it. Then click on the “Add” button.

You can access your collections on the collections page accessible in the top navigation bar.

How can an interior designer use a collection?

An interior designer can use a collection as a resource book for saving things they like organized by category (eg: Sofas under $3,000) or for saving products and photos they are considering for a particular project (eg: Ortega Living Room). They can share the particular collection’s URL with their client. They can also ask a question so the client can comment on the individual products and make choices among the options.

Can a collection be private?

Yes, a collection can be private. Simply choose the option to make the collection private when you are adding something to a collection.

Who can see a private collection?

Private collections can be seen by you or anyone else you give the URL to.

Can I share a private collection with a client?

A private collection can be shared with a client by sending the URL to them. Anyone who has access to the URL will be able to see that collection.

How do I rearrange the order of things in my collection?

You can rearrange the order of items in your collection. Simply click on “Change the Order of Items” – you will see it under the collection cover photo and the description area. Once you click this you can drag and drop items to reorder them. Want to change the cover photo? Just drag one of the items to the cover photo.

How do I get advice from someone?

You can get advice from someone by clicking the “Ask a Question” button on the product detail page or on the Collection Page. You can choose to ask any of your friends by posting it on your Facebook timeline or specific friends by email. You will need to know your friends’ emails to get their advice.

Why do I need to log in with Facebook?

We offer log in with Facebook so that if you do want to share items and ask for advice from your friends, you can do it easily without having to log into another system again.

However, if you do not wish to log in with Facebook, you can also log in via our own login system. Simply sign up via the home page.

How many sites does WellFurnished search across?

WellFurnished searches across items on more than 75 furniture retailers – we get data from about 50 sites and also search across any items shared via the “Like it on WellFurnished” bookmarklet.

What are the “Similar Items” on the product detail page?

When you are shopping for furniture, you sometimes want to see items similar to the sofa or chair that you like – things that have similar style, similar elements etc. We are building algorithms that analyze the photo of an item of furniture, what people like about it and the attributes of the furniture to suggest similar items. These algorithms will get better over time as we get more data!
